Girl Injured In Drunk Driving Incident December 20, 2008

A man convicted six previous times of drunk driving yet who faced little if any consequences was arrested a seventh time, and this time a 13-year-old girl was injured as a result.

Madison – A Madison man has been arrested on tentative charges of seventh-offense drunken driving after a 13-year-old girl fell out of the passenger door of his pickup truck.

Police say the 48-year-old man was taken into custody Thursday on tentative charges including seventh-time drunken driving and failure to render aid.

Witnesses told police the truck was making a U-turn Thursday evening when the girl fell out. They say the driver failed to provide her medical treatment.

The girl’s condition wasn’t immediately available.

The news account didn’t provide the relationship between the man and the girl. It did, however, tell us that after his sixth DUI conviction in 2004, he received a two-year prison sentence which was stayed and five years of probation.

Tell me again how our slap-on-the-wrist system works to keep drunk drivers off the street.

It doesn’t, which is pretty much the new get-tough proposals we discussed here won’t make a dent in the problem we have in Wisconsin with repeat drunk drivers.

Global Orgasm For Peace December 20, 2008

Go ahead and try using this as a pickup line in a bar tonight. “Wanna go back to my place and have an orgasm for peace?”

Just a quick reminder that tomorrow is “Global Orgasm for Peace” day. I’m not quite sure how this will bring about peace (maybe terrorists, despots and warmongers will be intimidated into hiding by our fiery red ears, crossed eyes and primal screams) but it’s an idea worth exploring.

Here are some details from the group’s website as to the intended cause and effect – well, the effect anyway, the cause is up to you:

This year we’re synchronizing in the two-hour period around the Solstice, which falls on Sunday December 21 at 12.04 p.m. (four minutes after noon) Greenwich Mean Time. So in the U.K., Global-O time will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Check the Global-O Time in your country

The world is celebrating the election of the new USA President, Barack Obama, and the hope for change that he has stirred in our hearts. We are riding the wave of joy and renewal, which gives us a flying start for this year’s Global O! It’s the Global OOObama Factor!

So let’s not waste this energy. Let’s send a wave of positive intention into the quantum field of the Earth. We will spike the charts at the Global Consciousness Project and lay a foundation for the ‘Mindful Alpha Male’ President to build on, to begin healing the damage done to the planet and all its species.

It’s obvious that we can now officially refer to Barack Obama as “Spanish fly for the liberal guy” …

All good liberal girls will comply with whatever guy requests. After all, it’s for world peace and to celebrate the Coming of The Messiah.

Auto Bailout Illegal? December 20, 2008

There is some growing consensus that President Bush’s decision to use TARP — Trouble Asset Recovery Program — funds to bail out the greedy auto workers Big Three automakers may be illegal.

Why? Because TARP funds were only designated to be used for financial institutions, and Chrysler, Ford, GM and the UAW hardly qualify as financial institutions.

The actual legislative language gives the secretary of the Treasury the authority “to purchase and to make and fund commitments to purchase troubled assets from any financial institution.” Financial institution is defined in the law as, “any institution, including, but not limited to, any bank, savings association, credit union, security broker or dealer, or insurance company.”

This is a disturbing trend, namely for the president to be able to designate whatever industry he chooses as a “financial institution” and then allocate bailout money to that industry.

Allowing the executive branch to define U.S. automakers – Chrysler, Ford and General Motors – as financial institutions greatly expands the meaning of TARP, said James Gattuso, a regulatory expert at the conservative Heritage Foundation.

“Frankly, this makes the TARP a personal slush fund for the president,” Gattusso told CNSNews.com. “There are no limits left. The only limit is to run out of money.”

“I was very surprised. It looks like the administration didn’t even try to do an end run legally,” Gattuso continued. “They are just blatantly going to ignore the statute. The question is who would have legal standing to challenge that.”

What limit? They’ll just print some more to throw at whatever they choose.

Here’s what Andrew Grossman at the Heritage Foundation had to say about the illegal use of TARP funds.

El Presidente Bush is getting some opposition in Congress.

Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) said the administration was “changing course regarding the implementation of the massive bailout without any input from Congress.”

“I also opposed the $700 billion bailout because I knew that more than just the financial industry would soon be lining up to ask for government assistance,” Inhofe said in a statement.

“Now, as the Bush administration has waffled and changed course again on implementation of the massive bailout, many of my colleagues who initially voted for the $700 billion bailout have been expressing regret over their decision to hand over such a massive blank check with little oversight to the administration,” Inhofe added.

Who’s next to line up for bailout money? How about failing newspapers?

Bush can’t leave office soon enough for my tastes. Problem is, having the Oval Office vacant for at least four years isn’t any more reassuring.

Minnesota Senate Seat About To Be Stolen December 20, 2008

Al Franken has just about completed his theft of the U.S. Senate seat in Minnesota.

Allahpundit has the details.

Count and count and recount and recount until you get a favorable result. Once again, we had mysterious numbers of ballots “appearing” out of nowhere, mysterious “adjustments” in heavily Democrat precincts, and the ubiquitous provisional ballots, which are key to voter fraud. Double ballots, ballots without proper security, trying to play Carnac the Magnificent and interpret voter intent. Classic textbook approach to stealing an election.

What’s even more galling is how meekly the Republicans are bending over and grabbing their ankles once again. And, people who think Sarah Palin wasn’t qualified to be a heartbeat away from the presidency think empty suits like Al Franken, Caroline Kennedy and Barack Hussein Obama are highly qualified to rule even though they have less real world experience than Palin.

By the way, the only time the Democrats failed to win a rigged recount was when the U.S. Supreme Court stopped them in Florida in 2000. Otherwise, Algore would have stolen the presidency.

Some Awkward Questions December 20, 2008

Charlie Sykes dusts off his set of questions for “Mrs. Snodgrass,” a euphemism for teachers in gummint-run skoolz who have turned science classes — as well as just about every other class — into propaganda sessions for the global warming hysterics.

My favorites:

*You said that there’s a consensus,”that man causes global warming, Mrs. Snodgrass. So how do you explain Richard Lindzen? (He’s the Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Atmospheric Science at MIT.)

*Why have the “experts” been wrong so often? (they predicted global freezing? , or Hurricanes? Or when they all embraced the bogus hockey stick model of global warming until it was discredited?) So why should we believe them now?

Cough Drops = Drugs December 20, 2008

Folks, you cannot make stuff like this up.

A 9-year-old girl in Florida is accused by her gummint-run skool of selling drugs simply for sharing some Halls Defense Vitamin C cough drops with classmates.

Officials at Patterson Elementary School in Clay County decided, however, not to discipline Khalin Rivenbark, who met with the girl and her father Wednesday.

The accusation arose one day earlier when the child got into trouble after her father put some Halls Defense Vitamin C cough drops in her school bag when she was recovering from a cold, she told Jacksonville’s WJXT-TV

She later shared some with friends.

“[A teacher] saw me with the cough drops out and I guess she saw me give it to one of my friends, and then like, ‘Oh, I see this good business going on around you,’” Khalin told the station.

“She said, ‘You’re selling drugs.’ (I said) ‘No, I’m not.’”

The 9-year-old said one of her friends gave her $1 for the cough drop.

Her father, Andy Rivenbark, told the station, “It’s absolutely crazy.”

The student said the cough drops were in her bag, and two friends asked for one, so she handed them out. One friend insisted on paying.

“She felt guilty taking the cough drop or whatever, so she gave me a dollar. I didn’t want to accept it, but she had me take it,” Khalin told the Jacksonville TV station.

That teacher is completely devoid of common sense. Anyone who equates a cough drop with, say, marijuana, cocaine or crack, is an idiot.

Fortunately for the girl, calmer and more rational heads prevailed. But you can imagine the cops being called and the little girl perp-walked out in front of her classmates as a drug dealer.
