Voters in Wisconsin will be selecting a new State Superintendent of Schools for the Department of Public Instruction this spring. Current DPI chief and toady of the Wisconsin Extortion Association Council Elizabeth Burmaster is not seeking another term.
Some good news in that race, which isn’t on the radar screen of most voters currently, via James Wigderson at the Library & Pub.
Rose Fernandez, candidate for State Superintendent for the Department of Public Instruction, is driving the debate in her race. First her proposal for reforming MPS forced the other candidates to respond with how they would reform MPS. Now Fernandez has come out with more proposals, including continued support for the levy limits and the QEO. But more importantly, Fernandez has endorsed the idea of merit pay.
You can check out Fernandez’s website here.
Here’s Rose’s plan for reforming Milwaukee Public School, and if there’s anything in need of reform in Wisconsin, it’s MPS:
Our New Regulatory Czar January 20, 2009

Here’s Cass Sunstein, the new head of the White House’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. In other words, America’s new Regulatory Czar.
The Evil Conservative tells us a little about Sunstein:
He’s dead set against hunting and sees the keeping of pets as a form of slavery. He’s been a strong advocate for the concept that animals can sue humans …
You read that right. If you have a pet, in this guy’s view, you are akin to slaveowners in the antebellum South. He also believes that animals should have the right to sue humans in court.
Folks, you can’t make stuff like this up.
The Center For Consumer Freedom notes that Sunstein has made no secret of his desire to ban hunting and the consumption of meat.
Sunstein supports making sport hunting illegal, and completely phasing out the consumption of meat. And if that’s not nutty enough, he’s actually in favor of giving animals the legal right to sue people.
Sunstein has made no secret of his devotion to the cause of establishing legal “rights” for livestock, wildlife, and pets. “[T]here should be extensive regulation of the use of animals in entertainment, scientific experiments, and agriculture,” Sunstein wrote in a 2002 working paper while at the University of Chicago Law school.
“Extensive regulation of the use of animals.” That’s PETA-speak for using government to get everything PETA and the Humane Society of the United States can’t get through gentle pressure or not-so-gentle coercion. Not exactly the kind of thing American ranchers, restaurateurs, hunters, and biomedical researchers (to say nothing of ordinary consumers) would like to hear from their next “regulatory czar.”
Will the next four years be a dream-come-true for anti-meat, anti-hunting, and anti-everything-else radicals? Time will tell. For now, meat lovers might want to stock their freezers.
The Perpetual Campaign January 20, 2009

Michelle Malkin shows how Our Lord and Savior has already turned the White House website into a glorification of His ego and yet another part of the perpetual campaign.
She reminds us:
Remember, friends, it’s not about him.
A commenter at Malkin’s site wryly observes:
All that is missing is the donate here button.
Don’t worry. Somehow they’ll find a way to use the official White House website to allow people from all over the world to donate to the perpetual campaign.
Book Banning In The Name Of The Messiah January 20, 2009

Welcome to the Brave New Obama Nation.
The Los Angeles Times reports John Foley, a teacher in the state of Washington, is advocating the removal of several pieces of classic American literature from curricula in light of the Second Coming of Christ, er, the Immaculation of Our Lord and Savior.
Those classic pieces of literature? Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn, Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird and John Steinbeck’s Of Mice And Men. All three have been the target of leftist book banners in the past.
But now it’s being done in the Name of The One, the Messiah, the Chocolate Jesus, the Second Coming of Christ.

Here’s the new loyalty oath to Dear Leader:
I swear by God Allah this sacred oath that I will obey without question the Führer of the German Reich Obama Nation and people, to Adolf Hitler Barack Hussein Obama, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and that I am prepared as a brave soldier to lay my life on the line at any time for this oath.
What inspired this? A nauseating video via No Runny Eggs, which at about the 1:30 mark induced me to vomit on my keyboard and should come with the following warning:
Likely to induce diabetic coma if watched in its entirety. Have someone available to dial 9-1-1 in that event.
A collection of dimwitted celebritards pledging allegiance to Our Lord and Savior. A bunch of people who’ve never held a real job in their adult lives, never actually produced anything and no doubt don’t know any real Americans, let alone what it’s like to be one.
Here’s a clue: we don’t pledge allegiance to any individuals or pledge to serve any leader. Their job is to serve us. But you wouldn’t expect these products of gummint-run skoolz to actually know that.
Update: the video has been removed by the user at YouTube but we will try to locate another copy of it.
Update: you can see the diabetic coma-inducing video here.
Iowahawk has the brilliant transcript of the diabetic coma-inducing video here, complete with sarcasm.

Dedicated to all the phonies and empty suits being celebrated in Washington and the newly minted one party government …
I haven’t seen such adulation for Someone who has done absolutely nothing to deserve it and has accomplished nothing since, well, Milli Vanilli.

The Drive By Orgasm January 20, 2009

Howard Kurtz of the Washington Post comments on the Obamagasm of the Drive By Media.
Obama is being covered not just as an incoming president but as a white-hot celebrity. In recent days, the New York tabloids have run front-page stories on his official portrait and new Cadillac limousine, amid such headlines as “VOICE OF HOPE” and “RENEW THE DREAM.” The Washington Times gave front-page play yesterday to an essay Obama wrote for the paper, while Parade magazine’s cover story was a letter that Obama wrote to his daughters. Michelle Obama is being touted as America’s next supermodel. And there has been much panting over the family’s search for a dog.
At what point does the recognition of Obama’s gifts and this juncture in history spill over into partisan adulation? Some journalists justify the ebullient tone by arguing that Obama is simply more fascinating than most politicians, as well as a trailblazer who is following 43 white presidents. Others say they are merely reflecting a public groundswell. Still others say Obama moves product when he’s on TV shows and magazine covers. Perhaps, more than one reporter says privately, Obama deserves the adulation, given the fact that he pulled off a political feat even harder than landing a crippled jet intact on the Hudson River.
Once again, the American Idol sovereignty has begun, with the Drive By Media serving as its mouthpiece instead of its watchdog.
A Dangerous Era Begins January 20, 2009

Mac Johnson at Human Events on the era of extreme danger unrecognized by all but a few that America enters with today’s coronation of Our Lord and Savior.
Unexamined by the media, unopposed by Congress, unleashed from precedent by crisis, there is another wrinkle in the story to consider: the strange cult of personality that surrounds Obama.
This cult is nothing short of creepy and is distinctly un-American. Unlike many other nations, we have avoided the “leader as a movement” hazard in America. We have traditionally believed in institutions and mistrusted any individual who claimed to be “the solution” to all our problems.
Something has changed with the rise of Obama. His stylized image is slapped on posters, bumper stickers, chocolate bars, commemorative coins, cups, t-shirts and sold not just at political events but at grocery stores and retail shops. He has own symbols, seals, and flags. Glowering from within a Maoist sunburst. Beaming from a Warholish print. Pondering the skies from within his own “O”, he has gone beyond what is appropriate and traditional for an American political candidate. He has become an infallible fetish object for some.
We’ve become a nation of American Idol, now transferred to politics. True symbolism over any real substance.
El Rushbo compared it to Jim Jones and the People’s Temple cult from the 1970s yesterday. The Drive By Media as well as the followers of the cult have consumed the Kool-Aid. Comparing the emptiest of empty suits to, of all people. Abraham Lincoln. Raising Dear Leader to the status of a cult figure a la Jim Jones.
Unfortunately it has the very real potential to wind up with the same tragedy as Jonestown.
Here’s Limbaugh’s summary of Jonestown:
[H]ere’s the down low on Jim Jones. His commune there was 900 people, Jonestown, and it was 1978 that he convinced everybody to drink the Kool-Aid. So over 900 people died, and his cult was a socialist-type community. He was a godlike figure, and most cult leaders, folks, are. Even if they’re not political figures, when you strip away what it is about them that makes them godlike, it is their socialistic approach to people. Everybody is going to be the same. Everybody is going to be prosperous. There will be no pain. Everybody is going to get what everybody else gets. Everybody is going to be equal. There won’t be any disparities, inequality, this sort of thing. Plus the cult leaders makes you think that he’s going to do everything for you. All you gotta do is get up and walk around in your white robe and put your hands together and pretend to be a monk and pray — and, of course, do what he says at every moment. A cult leader is essentially a power freak and in Jones’ case, a mass murderer.
The Kool-Aid that Jim Jones convinced his cult followers to drink was laced with cyanide, a number of sedatives, including liquid Valium, Penegram, and chloral hydrate. Other victims appear to have been murdered by poison injection, but he got rid of everybody down there. The Guyanese coroner said hundreds of bodies showed needle marks indicating foul play. Still other victims were shot, although Plaxico Burress was not seen in the vicinity. Very few fled into the jungle and survived. In all, 914 died, 633 adults and 276 children at Jonestown in Guyana. Some sources say 911 died. Their bodies were in a state of extensive decay when the authorities arrived. There was really not much time to conduct a thorough investigation. TV station KTVU San Francisco has a collection of photographs of the People’s Temple Agricultural Project. Some are quite disturbing.
Unfortunately their website implies that all the dead committed suicide. So it was the cult leader, and he had a socialist-type personality, 1978.
Just like our new national cult leader and His followers. He’s even a socialist, to boot.
Here’s another story about various gummint-run skoolz and the indoctrination going on across the country today via Rush:
Parents in Wake County, North Carolina, at an elementary school there, kids “will be required to eat in classrooms on Tuesday so they can spend two hours watching the [immaculation] on TV.” Another school is going to force the kids to eat lunch at 10:30 so that they can watch this uninterrupted. They’re then going to be required to write a paper about the historical significance of this. These will be displayed on a bulletin board somewhere. This will make sure the project is carried out, and some parents are saying that they’re going to keep kids home if the school doesn’t show it. Some say they won’t come if it is shown. I thought we were all together in this. This has never before been a requirement at schools that I know of, not Reagan, Bush, Clinton, or Bush. But the oath of office doesn’t seem to be the thing. But no, they’re going to watch the whole thing, the parade and all that. They must, and they’re going to write essays about it.
Say “Sieg Heil” to the nice people. Something right out of Nazi Germany, the former Soviet Union, Cuber, Venezuela, the NorKorComs, just about any totalitarian state you can name.
You vill bow down and vership Dear Leader and you vill like it.
Sorry. Not me. Not. My. President. I don’t want a seat at His table. I don’t want Him to succeed, because if He succeeds, America fails.
And yes, I still as ashamed on this country as I was on the night of the anointment in November.
