Mac Johnson at Human Events on the era of extreme danger unrecognized by all but a few that America enters with today’s coronation of Our Lord and Savior.
Unexamined by the media, unopposed by Congress, unleashed from precedent by crisis, there is another wrinkle in the story to consider: the strange cult of personality that surrounds Obama.
This cult is nothing short of creepy and is distinctly un-American. Unlike many other nations, we have avoided the “leader as a movement” hazard in America. We have traditionally believed in institutions and mistrusted any individual who claimed to be “the solution” to all our problems.
Something has changed with the rise of Obama. His stylized image is slapped on posters, bumper stickers, chocolate bars, commemorative coins, cups, t-shirts and sold not just at political events but at grocery stores and retail shops. He has own symbols, seals, and flags. Glowering from within a Maoist sunburst. Beaming from a Warholish print. Pondering the skies from within his own “O”, he has gone beyond what is appropriate and traditional for an American political candidate. He has become an infallible fetish object for some.
We’ve become a nation of American Idol, now transferred to politics. True symbolism over any real substance.
El Rushbo compared it to Jim Jones and the People’s Temple cult from the 1970s yesterday. The Drive By Media as well as the followers of the cult have consumed the Kool-Aid. Comparing the emptiest of empty suits to, of all people. Abraham Lincoln. Raising Dear Leader to the status of a cult figure a la Jim Jones.
Unfortunately it has the very real potential to wind up with the same tragedy as Jonestown.
Here’s Limbaugh’s summary of Jonestown:
[H]ere’s the down low on Jim Jones. His commune there was 900 people, Jonestown, and it was 1978 that he convinced everybody to drink the Kool-Aid. So over 900 people died, and his cult was a socialist-type community. He was a godlike figure, and most cult leaders, folks, are. Even if they’re not political figures, when you strip away what it is about them that makes them godlike, it is their socialistic approach to people. Everybody is going to be the same. Everybody is going to be prosperous. There will be no pain. Everybody is going to get what everybody else gets. Everybody is going to be equal. There won’t be any disparities, inequality, this sort of thing. Plus the cult leaders makes you think that he’s going to do everything for you. All you gotta do is get up and walk around in your white robe and put your hands together and pretend to be a monk and pray — and, of course, do what he says at every moment. A cult leader is essentially a power freak and in Jones’ case, a mass murderer.
The Kool-Aid that Jim Jones convinced his cult followers to drink was laced with cyanide, a number of sedatives, including liquid Valium, Penegram, and chloral hydrate. Other victims appear to have been murdered by poison injection, but he got rid of everybody down there. The Guyanese coroner said hundreds of bodies showed needle marks indicating foul play. Still other victims were shot, although Plaxico Burress was not seen in the vicinity. Very few fled into the jungle and survived. In all, 914 died, 633 adults and 276 children at Jonestown in Guyana. Some sources say 911 died. Their bodies were in a state of extensive decay when the authorities arrived. There was really not much time to conduct a thorough investigation. TV station KTVU San Francisco has a collection of photographs of the People’s Temple Agricultural Project. Some are quite disturbing.
Unfortunately their website implies that all the dead committed suicide. So it was the cult leader, and he had a socialist-type personality, 1978.
Just like our new national cult leader and His followers. He’s even a socialist, to boot.
Here’s another story about various gummint-run skoolz and the indoctrination going on across the country today via Rush:
Parents in Wake County, North Carolina, at an elementary school there, kids “will be required to eat in classrooms on Tuesday so they can spend two hours watching the [immaculation] on TV.” Another school is going to force the kids to eat lunch at 10:30 so that they can watch this uninterrupted. They’re then going to be required to write a paper about the historical significance of this. These will be displayed on a bulletin board somewhere. This will make sure the project is carried out, and some parents are saying that they’re going to keep kids home if the school doesn’t show it. Some say they won’t come if it is shown. I thought we were all together in this. This has never before been a requirement at schools that I know of, not Reagan, Bush, Clinton, or Bush. But the oath of office doesn’t seem to be the thing. But no, they’re going to watch the whole thing, the parade and all that. They must, and they’re going to write essays about it.
Say “Sieg Heil” to the nice people. Something right out of Nazi Germany, the former Soviet Union, Cuber, Venezuela, the NorKorComs, just about any totalitarian state you can name.
You vill bow down and vership Dear Leader and you vill like it.
Sorry. Not me. Not. My. President. I don’t want a seat at His table. I don’t want Him to succeed, because if He succeeds, America fails.
And yes, I still as ashamed on this country as I was on the night of the anointment in November.
