Update On The War Against Free Speech April 30, 2009

The Democrats have some more weapons aimed at silencing dissent from The Anointed One’s agenda.

First is the establishment of local community boards to monitor the content of radio stations. The local community boards will be created by the FCC and will consist of the usual suspects and will be pressured by the usual suspects: community organizers such as ACORN — the Association of Corrupted Organizations Registering Non-eligible voters — and union thugs from AFSCME, SEIU, the teachers union, etc., and other assorted leftwing fruitcakes intent on shutting down talk radio. All zealous disciples of Our Lord and Savior Barack Hussein Obama.

A Zogby poll showed 82 percent of Americans in opposition to this idea with only five percent in favor.

Says Roger Hedgecock, a radio talk show host based in San Diego:

I think the FCC is on the cusp of enacting regulations that would fundamentally alter the traditional American assumption that we have the right to share and debate political opinions.

I believe the strategy is to make the current state of compliant journalism that prevails in the mainstream media the norm as well on the Internet and in talk radio.

I think in the next 90 days we will see the imposition of the local advisory boards. They will immediately become complaint departments staffed by the Left on all local and nationally syndicate talk programs.

The threats of those complaints to the viability of the underlying station licenses will be immediate and will force corporations that own these stations into a very defensive posture.

Talk about a chilling effect on free speech, this will be an Arctic blast of restraint on opinion based on the threat to take the license away.

Here’s more on the blueprint for The Messiah’s plan to silence dissent in the form of talk radio:

WASHINGTON – As popular opposition to the reinstitution of the so-called “Fairness Doctrine” mounts, Barack Obama and the Democrat-dominated Congress will end-run critics with legislation that will curb dissent on talk radio through the imposition of “localism” rules and community watchdog boards across America …

It’s chilling. They don’t need the (Un)Fairness Doctrine to silence dissent. That’s why they haven’t bothered to pursue it, and the Chocolate Jesus has expressed opposition to its reimposition. he has other ways to silence those who disagree.

Says Brad O’Leary, author of the book Shut Up, America! The End of Free Speech:

Far-left groups such as ACORN [Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now] stand at the ready to pressure these boards into silencing conservative talk radio programs, either through intimidation or the loss of broadcast licenses.

What’s more, Cass Sunstein, Obama’s choice of regulatory czar, supports a Fairness Doctrine for the Internet.

WASHINGTON – Barack Obama’s nominee for “regulatory czar” has advocated a “Fairness Doctrine” for the Internet that would require opposing opinions be linked and also has suggested angry e-mails should be prevented from being sent by technology that would require a 24-hour cooling off period.

Sunstein also has argued in his prolific literary works that the Internet is anti-democratic because of the way users can filter out information of their own choosing.

“A system of limitless individual choices, with respect to communications, is not necessarily in the interest of citizenship and self-government,” he wrote. “Democratic efforts to reduce the resulting problems ought not be rejected in freedom’s name.”

Sunstein first proposed the notion of imposing mandatory “electronic sidewalks” for the Net. These “sidewalks” would display links to opposing viewpoints. Adam Thierer, senior fellow and director of the Center for Digital Media Freedom at the Progress and Freedom Center, has characterized the proposal as “The Fairness Doctrine for the Internet.”

“Apparently in Sunstein’s world, people have many rights, but one of them, it seems, is not the right to be left alone or seek out the opinions one desires,” Thierer wrote.

Perhaps Sunstein’s most novel idea regarding the Internet was his proposal, in his book “Nudge,” written with Richard Thaler, for a “Civility Check” for e-mails and other online communications.

“The modern world suffers from insufficient civility,” they wrote. “Every hour of every day, people send angry e-mails they soon regret, cursing people they barely know (or even worse, their friends and loved ones). A few of us have learned a simple rule: don’t send an angry e-mail in the heat of the moment. File it, and wait a day before you send it. (In fact, the next day you may have calmed down so much that you forget even to look at it. So much the better.) But many people either haven’t learned the rule or don’t always follow it. Technology could easily help. In fact, we have no doubt that technologically savvy types could design a helpful program by next month.”

That’s where the “Civility Check” comes in.

“We propose a Civility Check that can accurately tell whether the e-mail you’re about to send is angry and caution you, ‘warning: this appears to be an uncivil e-mail. do you really and truly want to send it?’” they wrote. “(Software already exists to detect foul language. What we are proposing is more subtle, because it is easy to send a really awful e-mail message that does not contain any four-letter words.) A stronger version, which people could choose or which might be the default, would say, ‘warning: this appears to be an uncivil e-mail. this will not be sent unless you ask to resend in 24 hours.’

Says O’Leary, who revealed Sunstein’s background in his book:

It’s hard to imagine President Obama nominating a more dangerous candidate for regulatory czar than Cass Sunstein. Not only is Sunstein an animal-rights radical, but he also seems to have a serious problem with our First Amendment rights. Sunstein has advocated everything from regulating the content of personal e-mail communications, to forcing nonprofit groups to publish information on their websites that is counter to their beliefs and mission. Of course, none of this should be surprising from a man who has said that ‘limitless individual choices, with respect to communications, is not necessarily in the interest of citizenship and self-government.’ If it were up to Obama and Sunstein, everything we read online – right down to our personal e-mail communications – would have to be inspected and approved by the federal government.

Once again, the Left shows its true colors as anti-free speech and anti-freedom of expression with views that aren’t in line with its own.

Next comes the Cybersecurity Act of 2009, which will allow the Second Coming of Christ to shut down and take control of the Internet in case of national emergency, and He would the One to determine what qualifies as a “national emergency.”

As written, the Act would provide the President or his designees with a lot of authority, particularly in terms of shutting down all or parts of the Internet. Take a look at these key provisions:

The President–

…may declare a cybersecurity emergency and order the limitation or shutdown of Internet traffic to and from any compromised Federal Government or United States critical infrastructure information system or network;

…shall designate an agency to be responsible for coordinating the response and restoration of any Federal Government or United States critical infrastructure information system or network affected by a cybersecurity emergency declaration…

…shall direct the periodic mapping of Federal Government and United States critical infrastructure information systems or networks, and shall develop metrics to measure the effectiveness of the mapping process;

may order the disconnection of any Federal Government or United States critical infrastructure information systems or networks in the interest of national security;

Note that this gives the federal government the authority to shut down privately owned Internet networks; for example, any portion of the networks or cable systems owned by large corporations like Comcast or ATT.

This on top of His desire stated during the 2008 campaign to bring about nationalized broadband, which would allow the government to regulate speech in a medium it controls.

The only way His agenda of collectivist totalitarianism can advance is by controlling the debate and not allowing dissent. He already has His acolytes in the Drive By Media; now He needs to shut down the dissenters.

Suddenly, the need for the six regional detention centers proposed by Rep. Alcee Hastings (Crook-Fla.) becomes crystal clear. They’re for the dissenters that can’t or won’t be silenced.

Obama Eyeing A VAT April 30, 2009

Steve Forbes reports that Our Lord and Savior Barack Hussein Obama has His eye on creating a European-style value-added tax, or VAT, to fund in part His second term dream of free college for everyone.

Whatever part of the U.S. economy that might still be functioning after the first four years will be killed by this boondoggle.

Forbes writes:

Politicians love the VAT. First, because the levy applies to every transaction phase and includes services as well as products, it is difficult to avoid. It’s no surprise, therefore, that the VAT was invented by the French. Second, consumers don’t see it. By the time a product hits the shelf, the VAT is embedded in the retail price, unlike a sales tax, which is added at the checkout counter.

Thus, in Europe, a $50 item actually includes upward of $10 in value-added taxes. The White House figures this will be a revenue bonanza that will finance not only the socialized health care system it wants to impose on us but also President Obama’s second-term (if he’s reelected, of course) big initiative: providing free college to everyone.

Remember, this Administration still holds to its obese ambition to remake our capitalist economy into a western-Europe-like socialized economic system, in which government dependency is high, job creation is anemic and cutting-edge innovation in health-related areas and technology is almost nonexistent.

A VAT is not just a serpent in a simple low-tax Garden of Eden–it’s a nest of pythons.

The VAT has stifled economic growth in Europe, and The Anointed One — or The Christos, in Greek — wants to remake America in the failed image of socialist Europe. Remember: these are the better, smarter, more enlightened people. In their eyes, the only reason socialism has a failure rate of 100 percent is the right people haven’t tried it yet.

And they are the “right” people.

God help us all.

H/T to Charlie Sykes.

Jeff Zeleny of al-New York Times asks arguably the worst question ever at a presidential press conference.

That’s right. Zeleny — and yes, in your mind you can almost see the you-know-what dribbling off his chin — asks Our Lord and Savior Barack Hussein Obama what has “enchanted” Him about His first 100 days in office.

And quite correctly, Bernard Goldberg, the former See BS News correspondent turned best selling author, rips it to shreds.

I am wondering if the White House is passing out knee pads for The Anointed One’s staged, scripted press conferences.

You can almost visualize The Drive By Media and their Messiah playing this scene from South Pacific out:

Michelle Malkin calls Zeleny the Perry Como of the Drive By Media.

Well, well, well. Al-Associated Press did some fact-checking and caught Our Lord and Savior Barack Hussein Obama in a whopper.

In this case, trying to say the ballooning federal deficit isn’t His fault.

WASHINGTON (al-AP) – “That wasn’t me,” President Barack Obama said on his 100th day in office, disclaiming responsibility for the huge budget deficit waiting for him on Day One.

It actually was him – and the other Democrats controlling Congress the previous two years – who shaped a budget so out of balance.

And as a presidential candidate and president-elect, he backed the twilight Bush-era stimulus plan that made the deficit deeper, all before he took over and promoted spending plans that have made it much deeper still.

That’s right. The Messiah, along with Democrats running Congress gave us this mess. Thank you, Bela Pelosi. Thank you, Dingy Harry.
And thank you to The Anointed One, as well.

You can only try the “It’s Bush’s fault” line so long before even some segments of the Drive By Media catch on.

Received this as an e-mail forward today, but I will be putting it on paper and sending it to the White House with copies to my congresscritter and both of my useless senators:

April 29, 2009

The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington , DC 20500

Mr. Obama:

I have had it with you and your administration, sir. Your conduct on your recent trip overseas has convinced me that you are not an adequate representative of the United States of America collectively, or of me personally.

You are so obsessed with appeasing the Europeans and the Muslim world that you have abdicated the responsibilities of the President of the United States of America. You are responsible to the citizens of the United States. You are not responsible to the peoples of any other country on earth.

I personally resent that you go around the world apologizing for the United States, telling Europeans that we are arrogant and do not care about their status in the world. Sir, what do you think the First World War and the Second World War were all about if not the consideration of the peoples of Europe? Are you brain dead? What do you think the Marshall Plan was all about? Do you not understand or know the history of the 20th century?

Where do you get off telling a Muslim country that the United States does not consider itself a Christian country? Have you not read the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution of the United States? This country was founded on Judeo-Christian ethics and the principles governing this country, at least until you came along, come directly from this heritage. Do you not understand this?

Your bowing to the king of Saudi Arabia is an affront to all Americans. Our President does not bow down to anyone, let alone the king of Saudi Arabia. You don’t show Great Britain, our best and one of our oldest allies, the respect they deserve yet you bow down to the king of Saudi Arabia. How dare you, sir! How dare you!

You can’t find the time to visit the graves of our greatest generation because you don’t want to offend the Germans, but make time to visit a mosque in Turkey. You offended our dead and every veteran when you give the Germans more respect than the people who saved the German people from themselves. What’s the matter with you?

I am convinced that you and the members of your administration have the historical and intellectual depth of a mud puddle and should be ashamed of yourselves, all of you.

You are so self-righteously offended by the big bankers and the American automobile manufacturers yet do nothing about the real thieves in this situation, Mr. Dodd, Mr. Frank, Franklin Raines, Jamie Gorelick, the Fannie Mae bonuses, and the Freddie Mac bonuses. What do you intend to do about them? Anything? I seriously doubt it.

What about the U.S. House members passing out $9.1 million in bonuses to their staff members – on top of the $2.5 million in automatic pay raises that lawmakers gave themselves? I understand the average House aide got a 17% bonus. I took a 5% cut in my pay to save jobs with my employer. You haven’t said anything about that. Who authorized that? I surely didn’t!

Executives at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will be receiving $210 million in bonuses over an eighteen-month period, that’s $45 million more than the AIG bonuses. In fact, Fannie and Freddie executives have already been awarded $51 million – not a bad take. Who authorized that and why haven’t you expressed your outrage at this group who are largely responsible for the economic mess we have right now.

I resent that you take me and my fellow citizens as brain-dead and not caring about what you idiots do. We are watching what you are doing and we are getting increasingly fed up with all of you. I also want you to know that I personally find just about everything you do and say to be offensive to every one of my sensibilities.

I promise you that I will work tirelessly to see that you do not get a chance to spend two terms destroying my beautiful country.

Sincerely,

Every Real American

At the bottom I will add my own name and location and change some of the personal information to make it relevant. If you are disgusted with the first 100 days of THE. WORST. PRESIDENT. EVER. I suggest you do the same.

The GOP Loses A RINO April 28, 2009

News: Sen. Arlen “Magic Bullet” Spector (RINO-Pa.) switches from the Republican Party to the Democrats.

WASHINGTON (al-AP) – Veteran Republican Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania disclosed plans Tuesday to switch parties, a move intended to boost his chances of winning re-election next year that also will push Democrats within one seat of a 60-vote filibuster-resistant majority.

“I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans,” Specter said in a statement posted on a Web site devoted to Pennsylvania politics and confirmed by his office. Several Senate officials said a formal announcement was expected later in the day or Wednesday.

Views: Good. Don’t let the door hit you in the rear end on the way out. Spector has been a RINO for as long as I can remember. He was a key figure in getting the $1.3 trillion porkulus bill passed and has never been a reliable vote on anything.

Folks, this is not a bad thing. The Republican Party is much better off without Spector and his ilk who keep trying to drag the party further and further to the left and making it the “Me too! Me too!” Party.

Now, the Drive By Media template will be this: how can the Republican Party even consider itself a national party capable of winning elections if it cannot even manage to attract and maintain moderates such as Spector.

Fact is, Spector is no moderate. Spector is a liberal far more at home with the lefties in the Democrat Party.

Another part of the Drive Bys’ analysis will be the destruction of the so-called Big Tent of the GOP and its relegation to a party dominated by people so out of the mainstream of American society: Southerners, pro-lifers, evangelical Christians, conservatives. In short, right-wing redneck extremists, racists, xenophobes, fundie Bible-thumpers, homophobes and 2nd Amendment supporters living in trailer parks.

Well, where is the analysis of the so-called Big Tent of the Democrat Party? For example, where are their pro-life and pro-Second Amendment contingent? Where is the Democrats’ diversity? At least, the Republicans have diversity of views and tolerate differences of opinion.

Spector said:

I am unwilling to have my 29 year Senate record judged by the Pennsylvania Republican primary electorate.

In short, this was about saving his chance at re-election. His constituents were outraged at his porkulus vote and even his opposition to card check wasn’t enough to save him.

He saw inevitable defeat to Pat Toomey in the GOP primary.

Good riddance.

Sister Toldjah comments:

Wonder how the national GOP is feeling now, since a couple of weeks ago it was reported that they were lining up to support Specter over the conservative Toomey, just like they did last time around?

Egg. Faces. Not a pretty picture.

And the readers at Human Events via Michelle Malkin give the RINO Spector a highly appropriate kiss-off.

The Riehl World View doesn’t think Spector is a lock against Rep. Joe Sestak in the Democrat primary.

And The Jawa Report says good riddance as well.

The Other McCain weighs in:

Exit lying. One less member of the Senate Republican “Jellyfish Caucus.” Specter reminds me of the high-school slut trying to sleep her way to popularity — a weak reed, blown by the shifting winds. The fact that the national GOP apparatus lined up behind this venomous crapweasel in 2004 is all you need to know about what a worthless waste of time the national GOP apparatus was during the Bush/Mehlman era.

By the way, Spector threw this little tidbit into his announcement:

Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats.

Has he never heard of something called Operation Chaos?

The Next Martin Luther King? April 28, 2009

Nat Hentoff eviscerates the Congressional Black Caucus for serving as the proverbial tools for the Brothers Castro and for comparing Raul and Fidel to The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

To others of us who honor King, there is a barely surviving black Cuban disciple of King (and Mohandas Gandhi) whom the caucus visitors did not meet because he has been in a Castro brothers’ cage for many years and was off-limits to them. He is Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet, and he is among those designated by Amnesty International as “prisoners of conscience” in Cuban gulags.

Another visiting caucus member, Emanuel Cleaver of Missouri, was reported by the April 11 New York Post to have said, “We’ve been led to believe that the Cuban people are not free, and they are repressed by a vicious dictator, and I saw nothing to match what we’ve been told.” A government tour can lead you to believe anything.

For hammerheads like Rep. Bobby Rush, who called Fidel Castro the ultimate survivor and a hero in his home — yes, that’s right, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives called a Communist thug dictator a hero to him — they should have taken note of something Hentoff brings to our attention:

Nor were these visiting admirers of Fidel and Raul Castro seemingly aware that a biography of King – seized during the 2003 crackdown raids on independent libraries – was, among other subversive books, ordered burned by Castro judges in one-day trials.

So real Cuban disciples of Dr. King are being tossed into prisons as subversives while the collection of hammerheads from the CBC honor Communist thugs as being disciples of Dr. King.

Shame on them. The CBC gets our Tool of the Week Award for serving as propaganda pieces for Commie thugs.

The Teleprompter in Chief made Our Lord and Savior Barack Hussein Obama look like not just a mere mortal but a bumbling incompetent once again in a speech at the National Academy of Sciences.

Watch this gaffe fest:

D’Ohhhhhh!!!!!!

Says Allahpundit at HotAir:

TOTUS decided to take a little break mid-sentence during the speech. I’m tempted to say that it’s Obama himself who’s at fault and that TOTUS, being a good soldier, is merely taking the rap, but we know better than that.

After all, He is The Anointed One, or The Christos in Greek.

AP decries the “relentless jackass demagoguery” of anyone who dares to disgree with Him.

The Messiah says:

[T]here are those who say we cannot afford to invest in science. That support for research is somehow a luxury at a moment defined by necessities. I fundamentally disagree. Science is more essential for our prosperity, our security, our health, our environment, and our quality of life than it has ever been.

At RealClearPolitics, Jay Cost writes::

Who the hell is saying we cannot afford to invest in science? Isn’t the real argument about whether we can spend so much more (fully 3% of GDP) on science, and revitalize the economy, and save the banks, and save the Big Three, and spend more on education, and reform health care, and revolutionize the energy sector all at the same time?

He goes on to refer to all the straw men the Chocolate Jesus sets up just to knock down with His demagoguery.

I have heard “there are those who say…” from this President quite a bit in the last three months. I think it’s time he start naming names. Who are these people who hold such backward-looking, unacceptable positions? If they are elected members of the government, shouldn’t the President tell us who they are so we can vote them out? If they are unelected, how is it they have such power?

Or maybe there are no such people, at least not of such relevance they deserve specific mention by the President. Maybe this is just a rhetorical trick designed to make Mr. Obama’s position seem like the only one allowed by common sense.

Using phrases like “There are those who say” is a common trick of demagogues. It’s pure construction of straw men. If anyone has said that, please cite them. By name. With quotes.

The Christos knows no one has said that. At least no one worth mentioning.

Cost concludes:

I am sick and tired of the President’s rhetorical sophistry – and if Frank Newport called me up today, I would say that I disapprove of the job he is doing. If Scott Rasmussen’s computer called me, I’d say that I strongly disapprove. A President should not be mischaracterizing, and working actively to alienate, as much as 40% of his constituency – especially after he promised he wouldn’t.

PMSNBC has a poll up to give Our Lord and Savior a grade for His first 100 days. Go give Him the big, fat “F” He deserves.

And since He’s nothing but a cheap Chicago street thug, I am sure He won’t mind if you vote Chicago style: early and often. We know the Moron.org bots are. Vote, dump your cookies and vote again. And again. And again.

Protection For Whom? April 27, 2009

Via Erick Erickson at RedState.

It seems that Democrats weren’t interested in offering protection in the pending hate crimes bill to veterans — which makes perfect sense, since Homeland Security now considers veterans as right wing extremists and potential domestic terrorists — but do want to extend protection to — steady, now — pedophiles.

The U.S. House of Representatives is bogged down in dealing with leftist hate crimes legislation.

Let’s get straight to the punch line:

Congressman Rooney offered an amendment to include veterans as a protected class in hate crimes legislation, but the Democrats voted down the amendment.

The Democrats were, however, more willing to consider extending hate crimes protection to pedophiles. That’s not a punch line. That’s just sick.

We do know that at least for a time, one of the major associations of mental health professionals removed pedophilia from its list of recognized mental illnesses. We do know that the likes of Those Lost Without ACLUe have publicly defended the “right” of pedophiles to seek out victims when it defended NAMBLA’s so-called right to free speech. And many suspect that the end goal of the advocates of homosexual marriage is the legalization and normalization of same-sex relationships between adults and children and adolescents.

Of course, the amoral Democrats cast their lot with the perverts. No one should really be surprised. They’re been in the moral relativists’ camp for 40-plus years.

Rep. Tom Rooney (R-Ill.) offers the amendment extending protection to veterans and is rebuffed by Rep. Debbie Wassmerman-Schultz (D-Fla.), who says veterans aren’t real victims:
