The Gringo Mask

A company in South Florida has come up with a mask that can be downloaded from the Internet which it is calling the Gringo mask. Both the male and female versions have blonde hair and light skin and is supposed to be a satirical way for Hispanics to avoid being racially profiled as potential illegal aliens.

WEST PALM BEACH, FL — It’s called the “Gringo Mask” and its creator says its blonde hair and light skin, “Communicates that looking this way will keep you above suspicion of being an illegal immigrant in Arizona.”

The paper masks were free to download on www.gringomask.com.

The creators at Miami-based Zubi Advertising say they created the male and female masks as “A comical tool to convey a message and raise awareness about an issue that is important to all Americans.”

They say they are poking fun at the idea that everyone should look the same but some say, it is racist and sends a message that people who are not white should be ashamed.

Carol Gordon says, “They shouldn’t have to pretend that they’re white if they’re not.  They should just be comfortable with who they are and where they come from.”

Ha ha ha.

It would be more effective if the alleged racial profiling were a reality, but it’s not. And the demagogues pushing this fearmongering know it. They also know this tactic is effective because it puts their opponents on the defensive, having to “prove” they’re aren’t racists.

I think Americans who are in this country as legal immigrants are comfortable with who they are. It’s the ones who are here illegally that are worried and they have reason to be. They are here illegally.

What’s interesting is the proponents of this idea chose to use a slur for white people — gringo — without fear of repercussion over the choice of the word. Here’s what the company said about the use of the word:

We understand from your responses that some people might equate the word “Gringo” with an ethnic slur.  We do not.  It is simply a slang term used to describe Caucasians, and we don’t assign any negative connotations to it.

Hmmmm. How about if the company’s explanation had said this?

We understand from your responses that some people might equate the word “nigger” with an ethnic slur.  We do not.  It is simply a slang term used to describe black people, and we don’t assign any negative connotations to it.

Or perhaps this?

We understand from your responses that some people might equate the word “spic” with an ethnic slur.  We do not.  It is simply a slang term used to describe Hispanics, and we don’t assign any negative connotations to it.

This company would be out of business simply for its choice of words, due to the double standard of political correctness. In other words, it’s perfectly acceptable for the Left to lump all Caucasians together regardless of ethnic background and call them “gringos,” “honkies,” or “crackers.” But let anyone use anything not politically correct to describe any protected perceived victim group and it’s an unforgiveable sin.

I was going to use this as a hypothetical above:

We understand from your responses that some people might equate the word “dago” with an ethnic slur.  We do not.  It is simply a slang term used to describe Italians, and we don’t assign any negative connotations to it.

That probably would have been OK, since anyone of Italian descent is lumped in with the gringos, honkies and crackers, and Italy gave the world Christopher Columbus, the original cause of all the evil in the world.

Besides, the same lefties have no problem with using another vile slur to describe anyone opposed to the progressive agenda.
