This seems to be a pattern in the Era of Hope and Change.
Taking already bad economic numbers and revising them downward later on.
The efforts by the Obama Regime to push domestic exports has been, in short, an epic FAIL. The June trade deficit was the highest since October 2008.
[T]he recent Obama initiative to push exports to double in 5 years has started off, just like all other administration efforts, as an abysmal failure. The June balance of trade plunged to ($49.9) billion, on expectations of ($42.1) billion – a surge of $8 billion compared to May’s ($42) billion. This number was the highest since October 2008, and just $28 billion away from the all time record.
Even worse news: the first quarter gross domestic product was revised downward from 2.4 percent to 1.3 percent, and the second quarter GDP was revised downward to below 1 percent.
Welcome to Jimmy Carter 2.0. High employment with a stagnant economy. All that’s missing currently is the double-digit inflation and double-digit interest rates.
It’s not pretty out there. The Regime and its sycophants in the state-run media keep using the word “unexpectedly” when describing the onslaught of bad economic news.
It’s unexpected only when one has the economic IQ of a turnip, something common to progressives. Massive government spending resulting in back-to-back years of deficits well in excess of $1 trillion dollars. Government takeovers of everything from the auto industry to the banks and financial institutions to the mortgage industry to health care. The looming cap-and-tax fiasco which will be passed in the lame duck session of Congress. The Mother of All Tax Increases facing every American when Congress allows the 2001 and 2003 tax rate reductions to expire January 1, 2011 and everyone’s taxes skyrocket.
Must be like standing on the Titanic and seeing the iceberg coming and knowing there was nothing you could do to stop it.
Double-dip recession here we come.
By the way, Charles Krauthammer pointed out this week on the Fox News Roundtable that once Congress passed the $1.3 trillion porkulus bill, Our Lord and Savior Barack Hussein Obama owned the economy no matter how much He continued to blame President Bush.
Everything He’s done since then has cemented His ownership.
And they say a resounding “NO!” to the proposed Jihadist Victory mosque at Ground Zero:
One of the basic traits of the Islamonazis is to build a mosque at each site of conquest as both a means of celebration of that victory and as a reminder to those who were conquered.
This would be the second Victory mosque at a 9/11 site. The jihadists already have theirs at the Shanksville, Pa., site where Flight 93 went down.
Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs has the shocking details of what the Islamonazis were allowed to get away with thanks to the appeasement monkeys at the National Park Service, complete with pictures.
Right now, there is less than a 50/50 chance this monstrosity gets built. It’s become yet another albatross around the necks of Democrats already reeling in the polls. Lily-livered, linguini-spined establishment Republicans side with the Ruling Class here at their own risk.
Another case of the Ruling Class and its sycophant media being on the extremist kook fringe.
Possibly.
Via Hot Air, it seems a former Florida Republican Party staffer is alleging illegal activity between the party and Gov. Charlie Crist while Crist was a candidate for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate. Crist, facing a drubbing by Marco Rubio, has since dropped out of the GOP primary and is running as an independent.
Susan Wright, the only Republican Party of Florida staffer who repeatedly questioned lavish spending — only to be fired — has filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against the RPOF. While that’s certainly unwelcome for a party that tolerated much of former Chairman Jim Greer’s antics for far too long, Wright’s lawsuit could have greater political implications for the man who put Greer in and kept him there until the bitter end: Gov. Charlie Crist.
Says Wright’s complaint: “The Republican Party also began to use party money to support the senatorial campaign of Charlie Crist. The Republican Party was not supposed to financially support a candidate until after the candidate won the primary. Plaintiff realized that what the Republican Party was doing was illegal. Plaintiff reported these illegal uses of Republican Party resources to her supervisor (Richard) Swarttz.”
Where there’s smoke, there usually tends to be fire. Crist has paid back $9,600 to Greer, money donated to Crist’s campaign, allegedly to help Greer pay his legal bills. The real reason remains unknown … yet.
Here’s an earlier story on the corruption that is rocking the Florida Republican Party, all under the watchful eye of Crist and Greer.
Now Crist is whining that he was drummed out of the GOP and was treated unfairly. Call a wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhmbulance, O Orange One! Crist told PBS’s Tavis Smiley that he was “maltreated” by the party and “coerced” into leaving.
Cubachi reminds readers:
The NRSC, Senators John McCain, Lindsey Graham, John Cornyn, and Mitch McConnell among others, staunchly supported Crist, while leaving his republican opponent Marco Rubio out to solely campaign for his political life against the establishment.
Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey weighs in:
The “party” did everything it could to support Crist. The NRSC took a big gamble in endorsing Crist in a contested primary within minutes of his announcement for the race. Crist bailed out of the GOP because voters didn’t like him as much as Marco Rubio. The only reason Crist remained competitive for as long as he did in the primary was because the party establishment propped him up.
The Republican establishment in Florida as well as across the country is as much of a threat to our freedom, our liberty and our way of life as the progressive Democrats in power. Why? Because they enable the progressives as “me-too” asshats and held move the United States along toward the socialist state.
Charlie Crist is one of those asshats.
Our Tweet of the Day comes from STLConservative:
According to a new poll, one in five Americans now believes that Our Lord and Savior Barack Hussein Obama is a Muslim.
Here’s what al-Associated Press has to say (highlight mine):
WASHINGTON (al-AP) — Americans increasingly are convinced — incorrectly — that President Obama is a Muslim, and a growing number are thoroughly confused about his religion.
Nearly one in five people, or 18 percent, said they think Mr. Obama is Muslim, up from the 11 percent who said so in March 2009, according to a poll released Thursday. The proportion who correctly say he is a Christian is down to just 34 percent.
The largest share of people, 43 percent, said they don’t know his religion, an increase from the 34 percent who said that in early 2009.
Note the media bias and the al-AP offering his own opinion as to what Obama’s religion is, based only on The Anointed One’s claims.
There isn’t one shred of evidence — besides Obama’s claims — that He is a Christian. No one has seen any evidence of it. He hasn’t attended a Christian church other than as a photo op since coming to Washington. He spent 20 years listening to a racist, anti-Semitic preacher spew hate in a church of Black Liberation Theology.
Yes, that’s right. The Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s den of iniquity was not a Christian church but one of Black Liberation Theology, which is based in Marxist ideology rather than Christian theology. I’ve been in a lot of Christian churches of many denomination; I heard nothing in any of them that even came close to the hate, venom, bigotry and racism spewed by Wright.
So we have a man who claims to be a Christian but does nothing to demonstrate it.
What’s fueling the American public’s skepticism are Obama’s actions. Since the Transfiguration in January 2009, he has made time to specifically commemorate all Muslim holidays while ignoring the Judeo-Christian holidays. His White House holiday tree had ornaments on it with His likeness photoshopped onto Mount Rushmore and honoring Mao Zedong. The Obamas refused to put up the traditional White House Nativity Scene and did so only after enormous public pressure.
Thomas Lifson at The American Thinker reminds us of two more classic moments, Obama’s TV interview in which he references “my Muslim faith” and his bow before the king of Saudi Arabia, in which a Muslim honors the protector of Mecca and Medina.
And J.R. Dunn notes also at The American Thinker:
During a White House dinner celebrating Ramadan, the president found it appropriate to come out in favor of religious freedom. Not in support of Christians being attacked by janjaweed gunmen, or Bahá’ís tormented by Iranian mullahs, or Jews being stalked by assassins, or even American citizens being told that they cannot pray in public, but in favor of a shadowy foreign foundation with suspicious financing and disturbing jihadi connections that wishes to build some kind of victory monument congruent to the site of the 9/11 massacre.
And, as Obama Bill Ayers wrote ghost-wrote in Audacity of a Dope:
I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.
Obama’s thugs tell American citizens they cannot pray on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court. They tell Glenn Beck he cannot pray at the Kennedy Center at his rally on August 28. But all of a sudden He’s concerned about the “religious freedom” of the political culture that knocked down the World Trade Center and their so-called “right” to do a celebratory end zone dance at Ground Zero over their victory on 9/11.
Fact is, although Obama may have been born in Hawaii, he was raised in Indonesia and was raised Muslim. And, according to the Religion of Piece (of Arm, of Leg, of Torso), once a Muslim, always a Muslim. Obama’s father, Barack Hussein Obama Sr., was a Muslim.
There’s nothing to indicate Obama has ever renounced Islam, let alone embraced any other faith.
Lifson concludes:
What nobody on the left will acknowledge is that the systematic cover-up of Obama’s documents — his long form birth certificate, his academic records, his travel records (that curious trip to Pakistan while a college student that nobody in the press is the least bit curious about) — has led to deep skepticism about the biographical narrative ginned up by his campaign.
I am agnostic on the president’s faith. He says he is a Christian, but the version of Christianity he embraces, Black Liberation Theology, does not strike many people as genuine Christianity so much as genuine Marxism.
In other words, like me, many Americans are skeptical that the version of Barack Obama presented to us by his campaign, his media claque, and his carefully crafted rhetoric, is not the genuine story of the man. His own obfuscation of large parts of his past is the fundamerntal reason why so many of us are skeptical.
In other words, Obama is virtually a real-life Manchurian candidate. Personally, I believe Obama is a committed secular humanist with a dispensation to favoring both Islam and Black Liberation Theology.
Actions speak louder than words. And His words speak loud enough.
DrewM at Ace of Spades HQ weighs in:
I think the reason he’s seen as a Muslim is because of his family history and it’s the kind of religion a leftist would be more in tune with in America.
There more here at A Time For Choosing, including reminders that Obama told Nicholas Kristof of al-New York Times that the Muslim call to prayer was “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.” Also, the video of the speech in which Obama mocked Christianity:
Blogger Gary P writes:
It’s interesting that a guy who thinks we have 57 states (or possibly more) and talks about Navy “corpse-men” can recall “the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent.”
The National Republican Senatorial Committee has a guess, and it ain’t the Republicans.
Watch (via Hot Air):
Allahpundit notes:
If the GOP convinces independents that the left holds them in contempt — or rather, I should say, if Democrats convince independents of that — they’ll take a beating of Biblical proportions.
The Republican Study Committee has come out with this powerful ad putting the choices Americans face as they head to the polls in November and over the next two election cycles.
The ad uses footage and audio from Ronald Reagan’s 1964 address A Time For Choosing.
You can see that address in its entirety here:
The ad contrasts comments from Ronaldus Magnus with the usual suspects: Alcee Hastings, Bela Pelosi, Bawney Fwank, Dick Turban, Our Lord and Savior Himself. All about the need to spend more money to get out of debt, the haughty arrogance of power inside the Beltway.
All of which is a direct threat to our freedom and our liberty.
The contrast is stark and cannot be missed by anyone not choosing to miss it. They aren’t all the same. We have a choice in November. And will have a choice in November 2012.
Yeah, you could put the car in D and drive right off a cliff. But you can also put it in R and go back to the country we once knew and loved.
By the way, how I miss Ronald Reagan! He stood up to the evil of communism and if he were alive today, he would no doubt stand up to the evils we are facing today; namely, liberal fascism, Marxism, Alinskyism and Islam.
Ronald Reagan is still my President.
Jimmie Bise Jr. at The Sundries Shack calls this ad:
[P]ure electoral red meat.
Ace observes:
[N]ow you can’t say the GOP isn’t doing anything to advance the message.
Update: The Page has taken down the Mark Halperin post featuring the Wisconsin Democrat Party playing the race card. You can still read the Wisconsin Democrat Party’s statement here.
Scott Walker, in all likelihood Wisconsin’s next governor, made this highly effective ad taking Our Lord and Savior Barack Hussein Obama to task over the $810 million car-speed choo-choo from Milwaukee to Madison that Gov. Jim Doyle and Doyle’s Mini-Me, Tom Barrett, want to ram down our throats prior to losing everything in November.
Here’s the ad (via Hot Air):
Says Ed Morrissey:
[P]ay attention to Walker’s attack on Obama’s repetitive speech crutches: “Let me be clear,” “Yes, we can,” and the especially risible “It’s not about me.”
Imagine a Republican running for statewide office in a state that the Chocolate Jesus carried by 13 points in 2008 being able to run an ad mocking Him and his tired cliches — or do those cliches belong to the Teleprompter? — and believing it will do his campaign good not even two years after The Anointed One began His Thousand Year Rule.
A website called No Train has sprouted up to demonstrate the overwhelming opposition to this boondoggle, which both Walker and his Republican primary opponent Mark Neumann have vowed to kill. Walker has written an open letter to the Community Organizer in Chief which is published on the No Train website:
I am drawing a line in the sand Mr. President: No matter how much money you and Governor Doyle try to spend before the end of the year, I will put a stop to this boondoggle the day I take office.
It’s outrageous for Secretary La Hood to suggest that your administration can force Wisconsin to continue building a train it doesn’t want and cannot afford. Almost as outrageous as the fact that the decision to saddle Wisconsin taxpayers with untold millions in operating and maintenance costs, forever, was never debated or voted on by the Wisconsin legislature. If it had been, this letter would not be necessary.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, my opponent in the race to replace Governor Doyle, has made the Milwaukee to Madison train the centerpiece of his economic development plan for Wisconsin. The Mayor tells us that spending $810 million on high-speed rail will create thousands of new Wisconsin jobs, but according to the federal government’s own estimate, the total number of permanent jobs created will be 55. That’s $14.5 million per job, not including any hidden costs!
As for hidden costs, no one in your administration, nor Governor Doyle or Mayor Barrett can provide an accurate estimate of what it will cost to operate and maintain the new rail line. Rail projects in numerous other areas have seen original cost estimates skyrocket once construction begins.
In addition, study after study shows that rail passenger fares are likely to cover only 20% of the operating costs. That leaves hardworking Wisconsin families to pick up the other 80% through higher taxes and fees.
It’s reckless of Governor Doyle and Mayor Barrett to commit to spending $810 million of our money on a boondoggle train when we can’t even afford to fix our roads and bridges. Our state is facing a $2.5 billion hole in next year’s budget and a list a mile long of transportation needs.
Obama’s Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood was in Wisconsin last month saying there was no way to stop this boondoggle.
That’s what the Democrats are trying to do before they lose the governor’s mansion and both houses of the state legislature in November: dare Wisconsin’s next governor, a Republican, to kill this project once it’s been started. If that happens, the state will have to return the $810 million to Washington. Thanks to the financial mismanagement of Diamond Jim and his fellow Democrats (with help from RINO Rep. Brett Davis), Wisconsin is facing a $2.5 billion budget hole that either Walker or Neumann with a GOP controlled legislature will have to fill. The Dems are betting that the Republicans won’t have the stones to add another $810 million to that deficit.
The Dems are wrong. I believe that Scott Walker will kill this project on Day One. I also believe Mark Neumann would kill the project should he prevail.
Of course, the state Democratic Party, having nothing useful to say in support of a project few people want and that state taxpayers, already overburdened, will have to pay for, decides to enter the fray by playing the race card off the bottom of the deck.
Why? Because of a comment at the Hot Air site by a commenter called “ted c” which included this video:
The commenter labeled it as the Obama Regime’s response to the Walker ad.
I think it was hilarious. Actually, it’s probably more intelligent than anything that would come out of the Regime itself.
Mark Halperin at Time’s The Page has the Wisconsin Democrats’ response by claiming the Walker ad is 5 … 4 … 3 … 2 … 1 … raaaaacist! Yes, there are 5 a’s in raaaaacist!
Says Stephanie Findley of the Wisconsin Dems:
[T]he Walker campaign reached way back to the 1990s to dredge up a video featuring primarily African-American dancers. It would be naive to suggest that there are no racial overtones in the timing and the content of this communication by the Walker campaign. At best, it is tasteless and needlessly provocative. At worst, it recalls the coded racial program of division that has been exploited in the past. In either case, Scott Walker must apologize.
Typical. Lame Democrat response of “Raaaaacist!” Given the lack of substance of arguments and any logic to defend their positions, it’s all they have to fall back on. Hoping to make the other side play defense by trying to prove a negative or by humbly apologizing and in effect admitting to the accusation.
The Left in general and Barack Hussein Obama in particular are arguably the most racially divisive and, I would argue, racist elements in American society today. Everything to them is about race. Oppose ObamaCare? You’re a racist. Oppose amnesty for illegal aliens? You’re a racist. Oppose The Second Coming of Christ Himself? You’re a racist because you can’t accept a black president.
I am not a racist. To borrow a phrase from El Rushbo, I hate Obama’s white half as much as I hate his black half.
That said, the Wisconsin Dems’ statement falls flat because the video was not posted by a member of the Walker campaign but rather an ordinary commenter at Hot Air. To accuse the Walker campaign of posting that video is flat-out false, and they know it. Halperin was just guilty of lazy “journalism” (or is it now JournoLism?) by repeating whatever the Democrats told him.
This was what had the Wisconsin Dem’ panties in a wad: a tweet from Jill Bader, the communications director for the Walker campaign:
This was a retweet on Twitter of the comment made by “ted c” at Hot Air. One can argue that it wasn’t appropriate for a Walker campaign staff member to re-tweet this on an official Twitter account. I had a lengthy discussion with a fellow conservative this afternoon about it. We spent 15 minutes talking about apples and oranges; she was referring to the tweet and I, not having seen the tweet, presumed it was about the Hot Air comment.
It probably wasn’t a smart thing to re-tweet that even though it is funny as heck. Why? Because it had the potential to force our side into a position of having to play defense against the only weapon the Left and the Democrats have in their arsenal, the race card. Let’s not waste time playing defense. Like in football, you don’t score points while playing defense.
The Race Card. It’s the last act of a desperate party and a morally and intellectual bankrupt ideology.
This guy’s statements all over his vehicle summarize the feelings of the majority of Americans.
From Sharp Elbows via Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit:
Thanks to all of you lobotomized Hope and Change Kool-Aid drinkers (“O-Ba-Ma! O-Ba-Ma! O-Ba-Ma!”), America has been fundamentally changed forever and not for the better.
I want my damn country back! I can see November from my house.
