A Darwin Award Finalist

“You! Out of the gene pool!”

Update: There are some really stupid people out there. Really stupid. Real shit-for-brains morons. Get a load of this remark:

I’m sure he didn’t purposely walk out in the middle of traffic to save the ducks

Of course he did. That’s why he’s dead. This was a conscious decision made by the deceased: to walk out into the middle of a busy interstate highway to save a bunch of ducks. It’s also why he’s now taking the Eternal Dirt Nap. This bleeding heart garbage about saving every single animal from death and destruction and how the life of an animal is the same as that of a human being is more than I can comprehend. Yes, I have a pet. And have owned pets for as long as I can remember. But these are wild animals. It’s utter nonsense that we’re at fault for building roads and highways in what’s “rightfully” theirs. Too bad. If you want to go back to nature and live like the Unabomber, go right ahead. Nothing’s stopping you.

This shows the dreadful impact of the leftist agenda in our gummint-run skoolz and the dominant media culture. Stupid people like this shouldn’t vote. They’re the ones who give us the likes of Obama.

Note to the idiots trying to crash the site over this post: my sympathies to the next of kin, but anyone who enters an interstate highway to save a duck is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Hence, the consideration for a Darwin Award. The duck is a dumb animal, not worth a human life. If it got run over, to quote Vice President Chia Pet, Joe “Plugs” Biden: “Big f*cking deal.”

Profanity will not get you published here, nor will personal attacks on the blogger or any commenters. Be civil or be shitcanned.

There’s a reason why it’s called roadkill.

This guy took himself right out of the gene pool and became a leading contender for a 2011 Darwin Award by stopping on the Tri-State Tollway and getting out of his car to help some ducks cross I-294. The result was predictable: splat!

A Naperville man attempting to help out a family of ducklings get off I-294 was killed when he was struck by a limousine Monday morning, according to Illinois State police officials.

Edward Gardner, 38, of the 1600 block of Lonsdale Avenue was pronounced dead at 1:24 p.m. at Lutheran General Hospital according to a spokesman with the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Gardner was traveling northbound on I-294 when he pulled over near Schiller Park when he saw a family of ducklings on the tollway, said Illinois State Police Sgt. Nick Hasan.

After he pulled over he got out of his car at about 9:30 a.m. and was attempting to help the ducklings off the road when he was struck by a limousine which was traveling at or below the speed limit, Hasan said.

Roadkill. It’s the season for it. When nature meets the modern system of roads, highways and interstates filled with trucks, cars and SUVs. The animals lose every time. This time, an idiot took himself out of the gene pool.

How could you say that about a selfless, nature-loving heart of gold ??? We do things in life because God wants us to….are you that cold-hearted of a person, that you wouldn’t stop along the road to try and help a human or an animal in need?!?! Regardless of how one dies, it’s still very heartbreaking to their friends and family…..I hope you never have to endure the pain and heartache of losing a kind, funny, loving, caring and thoughtful person like Ed….May he rest in peace

  2. Only an idiot — yes, an idiot — goes into the middle of a busy interstate highway to help ducks get across. It’s one thing if it’s a human being. But an animal’s life is not equivalent to that of a person. This shows the mindless drumbeat of propaganda that’s been driven into the skulls of people with cheese whiz and tapioca for brains courtesy of the animal rights movement. Sorry, but animals do not have rights.

We have idiots advocating for animals to have constitutional rights, including the right to legal advocacy.

Sure, I feel bad for whomever he has for next of kin, but the limo driver is certainly not at fault, as many nutjobs in the comments section tried to claim. He’s driving 65 mph down the interstate and was in no position to react. The false accusations against him outraged me more than anything. Even the cops didn’t issue a citation. There’s a reason why pedestrians are banned on the interstate. When your car breaks down, they tell you to stay with it and wait for help.

Seriously, would you cause a chain reaction accident by slamming on brakes to avoid hitting a duck? The only animals I’ll brake to avoid hitting are a dog or a cat, because those are likely someone’s pet, and a deer and a skunk for obvious reasons. Yet if it comes down to the animal and risking causing an accident, I’ll hit the animal every time. Human life is more valuable.

The guy is responsible for his own death due to a reckless and idiotic decision. Actions have consequences.

  3. By the way, yes, I would not stop to help an animal. Experts will tell you that an injured animal doesn’t understand your compassion and is likely to bite or attack.

  4. The reference to “roadkill” refers to the duck, not the guy run over. The reader’s inability to comprehend that is not my fault.
